The Shuffle is a simple to use product. I use it on the bicycle or motorcycle where I can select volume or the next song without taking my eyes off the road. It works for me.

I own three different ipods, this is by far is the most user friendly. Its not bulky, its not heavy, and it has the old style ear buds (thank god) the new one with the new shuffle are junk. It will hold almost 1,000 songs more than I will listen to in a week at work. I love the size of this ipod, its great.

 "2nd Generation IPOD" 2009-12-30

By Sabra Leamnson

This is so much better than the new IPOD shuffle because the new one has the controls on the earbud cord so you have to listen to it with the earbuds. My son specifically wanted the old IPOD, not the new, so I had to look to find it.

 "waste" 2010-01-23

By jlc16 (PA)

I've had this for less than a year. It worked great at first, and last week it just stopped working. The buttons won't respond and I can't get it to do anything. I wiped it and started over, loading all the music and reformatting it, but in vain. A little research told me that this is a common problem with this nano. Nothing you can do. It's toast. I had it for about 10 months.

 "Seems overpriced to me..." 2010-01-17

By Anikin

Would never buy it for myself, because Apple stuff is really only as popular as it is because of massive, expensive marketing, for which we all pay when we buy it...

Bought it for my Mom though, hoping she would use it with audio books. It's really not that easy to use for older people with all of the technical details and Itunes DRM crap. It's mostly an expensive paperweight to her...

Sorry i drank the cool-aid with the rest of the herd this time...

 "Very nice." 2010-01-15

By R. Weigel-Sterr

Cons: you MUST register with itunes for the features to work... no opt-out... and to do that you either are required to provide a credit card or a prepaid itunes card... didn't like that part at all, especially since I'd planned to start with cds we already had... why should I give you my credit card to add on some music I already own?

Cons: when you load an album with multiple singers (like duets), it doesn't link the songs together as one complete album; it separates them by artist, which makes it difficult to locate the song you actually want to hear.

Pros: don't have to buy batteries! Charge it on the computer while doing other things. (Takes 3 hours.)

Pros: this version doesn't have video capacity: especially great for young users that you'd like to keep out of trouble, as well as for people who really don't care for video.

Pros: TONS of memory! 16GB at the same price as the newer ones for 8GB... fantastic.

Pros: fairly intuitive set-up... you don't really HAVE to read the manual if you don't want to.

Pros: ? Has a few games on it that the kids quickly became addicted to, and I didn't know they'd be on there.

"Great for the 3 months it lasted" 2010-01-09

By TR19191 (Los Angeles, CA)

I was a fan of my Ipod nano (Gen 1). When it finally broke, I bought the Nano Gen 4 I had really beat up the Gen 1 and it survived a long time. I took pretty good care of the Gen 4, and loved it until it suddenly was not able to charge up after only about 3 months of service.

Since it was well within the 1 year warranty, Apple quickly shipped a package for me to put it into and I mailed it back to their repair center. To my surprise, Apple shipped it back with a form letter stating that I had misused it and checked off a box that I had either exposed it to some form of contamination or immersed it in some sort of fluid (magically without tripping the immersion indicator). I know I had not done either of those, unless you consider normal dust as a contamination or air as a fluid.

(As a further slap in the face, the bottom of the form letter said that I would be charged $100 if I shipped it back to them again.)

I have switched to another player.

 "Eh." 2010-01-27

By Kaly Durland

I lost my original headphones that came with my iPod years ago, so I was looking for a replacement. I've been using cheap over-the-ear headphones for a while, and it turns out that those have better sound quality than these ones. I was very disappointed when I get them in the mail. The sound is okay, not terrible, but definitely not the quality I was used to.

 "Displeased with ear-phones order..." 2010-01-07

By Disappointed in Seattle

I recently purchase ear-phones from this vendor via Amazon.com. While his service was quick (I received the order within 3-4 days), the product was terrible. Within two weeks of receiving the headphones (only my 4th time using them), the part that plugs into the audio tool (beit a computer, iPod, etc.) fell off. It was wasted money (a little bit less than ten dollars including shipping). I went to Best Buy the other day and had to buy a brand new set of head phones for $20. If I knew that the headphones would be of such poor quality, I would have spent $30 on new headphones directly from Apple. I ended up spending that much anyway. The previous headphones that look the same as the ones I purchased from this vendor, which came with my iPod, I have used to a great extent for the past 2 and a half years. They still work well, but over time and use the part that sits in your ear has wore down to an uncomfortable level. Regardless 2 and a half years and still usable compared to 2 weeks and broken beyond being functionable leaves me to give a terrible review to this vendor.

Proceed with caution...

 "A great product" 2010-01-25

By Robert Worsham (Connecticut)

The Sansa Fuze 4GB is a fantastic product. It is easy to use, connect to the computer, work with folders, and navigate through the contents. I like the screen, which is a good size for viewing text. Amazon also sells an accessories package with armband holder, carcharger, and wall charger which they almost give away. So far I'd say you can't go wrong with this product. One thing I'd suggest though is to go to the Website for the product and download the pdf users manual for it. The instructions with the packaging are kind of sparse for me, a dummy MP3 player user who mainly uses it for audiobooks.

"Very functional, entertaining MP3 player" 2010-01-21

By Jacqueline Brown (Louisville, KY)

I purchased this for my mother for Christmas. I was impressed at the features for such an affordable MP3 player. It contains way more functionality than the $150 IPod Nano that I received a year ago. It was easy to load music (I used Windows Media Player), add pictures, identify radio stations, etc. I think that the sound quality was good enough for the recipient. I had some difficulty with controlling some of the features and understanding how the menu items worked, so I think this would take some practice.

The price of the device was good also. I found it most affordable on Amazon.com, for I had difficulty locating it in stores. Overall, I was very pleased with the quality and would encourage anyone in the market for an MP3 player to consider purchasing this one.

 "Summing things up" 2010-01-05

By Wave King (Chicago, IL)

I'm writing this review minutes after I received the item in the mail. I think I will sum up the previous reviews, as well as add some of my personal observations.

1. This product is probably fake. As mentioned in a different review, designed is spelled incorrectly (spelled 'designd') and the text is hard to read. However, it is small and portable.

2. It seems that buying this product is a gamble. Some chargers work, and others come in terrible condition. My charger came looking like new, in bubble wrap and a sealed plastic bag. Some other people came with the prongs broken, one person had theirs arrive dirty and scratched up. Consider it a 50/50 chance of getting a nicer one.

3. Once you receive the charger, whether it works or not is a different story. Again, this is a gamble (which I took because the charger cost about $[...] in total). The the worst things the charger can do are (1) not charge your device, (2) temporarily mess up your device or, as one review mentioned, (3) crash your device or computer. Some people have noted that the adapter works perfectly, some have noted that it is a scam. As of right now, the adapter is charging my iPod touch 3G 32gb. My only problem is that when i plug my ipod into it, the touch screen acts strangely (e.g. tapping and holding on the screen behaves as though i were tapping all over the screen or dragging my finger wildly, which I noticed when I was adjusting brightness and when I was going through my music library). As soon as i take my ipod out of the adapter, everything is perfectly normal. Hopefully, nothing permanent will result.

4. The green dot in the picture is not a light, it is just a green dot that isn't even visible when you plug the adapter in.

5. This does not come with a cable, just the block-like adapter.

Overall I give the adapter a 3 out of 5. It charges my iPod (but I have no idea for how long, as some have said that it breaks after days, weeks, or 2 months). However, I am a little concerned about permanent damage because it causes my device to work strangely when plugged in. 5 stars for ease of use because you just plug stuff in. 2 stars for working, because it works but affects my ipod, 3 stars for being what I ordered because I expected it to be a strange product but the effects on my ipod are unexpected. Buyer beware, but I think it's worth a shot. Thanks for reading this long review.

Arrange the icons on your Home screen any way you want. Even move them to another Home screen. Create up to nine Home screens for quick access to the games and applications you download from the App Store and to your Safari Web Clips.

Go Home

No matter where you are on iPod touch, you can press the Home button to return to the Home screen. You can go back to what you were doing at any time.

Add Apps, Web Clips, and More

Whenever you download an application from the App Store, a new icon appears on your Home screen. And if you check the same websites every day, just create Web Clips and you can access the sites directly from your Home screen with a single tap. Not happy with how they're organized? Reorder them any way you want by dragging them around the screen.

Safari

iPod touch features Safari, the most advanced web browser ever on a portable device.

Browse Anywhere

The iPod touch is the only iPod with 802.11b/g wireless access to the web. Whenever you're connected via Wi-Fi, you can access your favorite websites to read news, check scores, pay bills, and go shopping.

Search and Find

iPod touch syncs your bookmarks from your PC or Mac, so you can access favorite sites quickly. It has Google and Yahoo! search built in, so it's easy to find what you're looking for on the web.

Zoom with a View

Get a closer look at any web page by zooming in and out with a tap or a pinch of the Multi-Touch display. View websites in portrait or landscape. Rotate iPod touch 90 degrees and the website rotates, too.

Clip it.

If you check a website frequently--a favorite newspaper, blog, or sports site--why not create a Home screen icon for it? Make Web Clips with Safari, and your favorite sites are always just a tap away.

Email on iPod touch looks and works just like email on your computer.

When you're connected via Wi-Fi, you can get directions, find local businesses, and check traffic with Maps.

Mail

Email on iPod touch looks and works just like email on your computer.

See it All

iPod touch supports rich HTML email, so images and photos appear alongside text. And you see email attachments in their original formats, not stripped-down versions. Rotate, zoom, and pan in more than a dozen standard file and image formats, including PDF; Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and iWork.

Access it All

Access your email from popular providers--including MobileMe, Microsoft Exchange, Yahoo! Mail, Google Gmail, and AOL--and most industry-standard IMAP and POP mail systems.

Send Fast

iPod touch recognizes email addresses in different applications. If you run across an email address on a web page or a map listing, for example, just tap it; iPod touch opens a new message and addresses it for you.

Type Smart

With its built-in dictionary, the intelligent iPod touch keyboard predicts and suggests words as you type, making it fast and easy to write email.

Maps

When you're connected via Wi-Fi, you can get directions, find local businesses, and check traffic.

Find Yourself

iPod touch finds your location using known Wi-Fi hotspots. It also finds points of interest by keyword: Search for "coffee" and iPod touch shows you every cafe nearby.

Get Directions

Just type in an address and get directions from wherever you are. View a list of turn-by-turn directions, or see a highlighted map route. You also can mark specific locations and find the best route between them.

Enjoy the View

Just like Google Maps on your computer, Maps on iPod touch lets you switch between views of Google map data, satellite images, and a hybrid of both. Multi-Touch makes the difference. Tap to zoom, pan, and change your view on the move.

See Traffic

Maps on iPod touch shows you live traffic information, indicating traffic speed along your route in easy-to-read green, red, and yellow highlights.

Sync Photos

iPod touch uses iTunes to sync photos you have in iPhoto on a Mac or Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Photoshop Album on a PC. Just choose which photos or albums to sync to your iPod touch, then you can look at them--and share them--anywhere you go.

Calendar

With iPod touch, it's easy to make plans and stay on schedule.

Keep your schedule at your fingertips with iPod touch. Add events to your calendar. Set a custom alert. Write a note or two. Manage multiple color-coded calendars. And do it all with just a few taps.

Stay in Sync

Connect iPod touch to your computer, and the events that you've created on-the-go automatically sync to Microsoft Outlook on a PC or iCal on a Mac. And all the events you've added on your computer sync to iPod touch.

Three Ways to View

iPod touch gives you three ways to view your calendars. List view shows you all your appointments in the coming days as a comprehensive list, which you can scroll up and down. Day view displays one day's worth of appointments visually. And Month view offers an at-a-glance look at an entire month.

Contacts

Put names, email addresses, phone numbers, and more at your fingertips.

Make Contact

Build your contacts list on your Mac with Address Book or on your PC with Microsoft Outlook, then sync everything to your iPod touch using iTunes. You also can add contact information directly to your iPod touch from maps, web pages, and email. Next time you sync, your computer is updated, too.

Search Contacts

If you have a lot of contacts, a quick search shows you a list of matching names. Or you can scroll up and down your entire list to find the right contact. Want to send them an email? Just tap an email address and the Mail application opens automatically.

Organized by Groups

If you keep your contacts organized into groups--such as co-workers, friends, family, and so on--iPod touch will, too. And iPod touch can hold more than just names, email addresses, and phone numbers. You also can track birthdays, websites, nicknames, and notes.

Stocks, Weather, and Notes

Stay on top of it all.

Check Stocks

Stocks on iPod touch shows you performance information for any stock you choose. When you want more details about a stock's performance, tap the Y! for instant access to Yahoo! Finance.

Get Weather

Check worldwide weather at home or away. Add the cities you want, then flick back and forth to get six-day forecasts for each. Tap the Y! to open a Yahoo! city guide that shows you what's happening, rain or shine.

Take Notes

Forget the pen and paper. Use Notes on iPod touch to write yourself a quick note and keep important information on hand. There's even a built-in email function that lets you send notes to yourself or others.

Calculator

iPod touch's calculator helps you settle the restaurant bill or keep track of your budget.

Calculate Simply

When you tap the Calculator icon, iPod touch shows you a simple application with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and memory functions. Use it just as you would a pocket calculator.

Calculate Scientifically

Your simple calculator doubles as a sophisticated scientific calculator. Just rotate it to landscape to access dozens of functions for solving complex science and math problems.

iPod touch now includes built-in Nike + iPod support.

Nike + iPod

Get the most out of your workout.

Tune Your Run

iPod touch now includes built-in Nike + iPod support. Just slip the Nike + iPod Sensor (available separately) into your Nike+ shoe and start your run. The sensor communicates wirelessly with your iPod touch, tracking your time, distance, and calories burned. It even gives you voice feedback on your progress.

Tune Your Cardio Workout

This feature also works with new cardio equipment available in many fitness centers. Just look for treadmills, ellipticals, stair steppers, and stationary bikes that are Nike + iPod compatible.

Sync with Nikeplus.com

When you get back to your computer, sync your iPod touch via iTunes and transfer your exercise data to nikeplus.com, where you can track your workouts, set goals, and challenge friends.

Multi-Touch

iPod touch features the same revolutionary interface as iPhone.

Glide, Flick, Pinch

Built to take full advantage of the large 3.5-inch display, the Multi-Touch touchscreen interface lets you control everything using only your fingers. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flick through photos and enlarge them with a pinch, zoom in and out on a section of a web page, and control game elements precisely.

How it Works

The Multi-Touch display layers a protective shield over a capacitive panel that senses your touch using electrical fields. It then transmits that information to the LCD screen below it. iPod touch software enables the flick, tap, and pinch.

Type with the Touchscreen Keyboard

iPod touch features an intelligent touchscreen keyboard perfect for browsing the web in Safari, getting directions on a map, searching for videos on YouTube, finding music on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, or adding new contacts. It analyzes keystrokes to suggest words as you type and correct spelling errors automatically. And because it's software based, it changes its keys to support typing in multiple languages.

iPod touch locates nearby wireless hotspots, including protected networks.

Accelerometer

iPod touch responds to motion using a built-in accelerometer.

Responds to Movement

iPod touch detects when you rotate it from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display. So you immediately see the entire width of a web page, view a photo in its proper aspect ratio, or control a game using only your movements.

How it Works

The accelerometer inside iPod touch uses three elements: a silicon mass, a set of silicon springs, and an electrical current. The silicon springs measure the position of the silicon mass using the electrical current. Rotating iPod touch causes a fluctuation in the electrical current passing through the silicon springs. The accelerometer registers these fluctuations and tells iPod touch to adjust the display accordingly.

Perfect for Gaming

Accelerometer technology really shines when you play games because it immerses you in the action. It's perfect for racing games--where your entire iPod touch acts as a steering wheel--and for tap-and-tilt games like Super Monkey Ball, in which your character responds to your every movement.

Wireless

Connect iPod touch to the Internet anywhere there's a wireless network.

Connect Automatically

iPod touch locates nearby wireless hotspots, including protected networks. If you've never used a particular network, it asks you to enter a password the first time, and it remembers the password from then on. So the next time you're within range, it connects automatically.

Surf's Up

Now you can send email from a coffee shop. Surf the web at the airport. Shop for games from your couch. Browse, buy, and download music from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store at select Starbucks locations or other wireless hotspots in your area.

 "Serves its purpose" 2010-01-22

By J. Long

My first new Ipod since the old faceless shuffle from six years ago. I like it very much, the screen is great. It easily picks up and connects to wireless so I can use the internet. Now that I have my Griffin Roadtrip FM tuner for the car, it goes everywhere with me. My one real complaint, however, is that when using the headphones the connection sounds scratchy sometimes and I have to adjust the plug. Again, I use it mainly in the car, and still use my shuffle to work out with cause it is more appropriate for that. Not much of an applications/games guy, so I can't speak to that.

 "RANK 1." 2010-01-15

By Harkanwar Anand (New York, New York)

Before you read any further, understand that I've had my iPod touch for 15 months.

My blackberry and the iPod touch are possibly two devices I can't live without but overall I feel this one does almost everything my Blackberry does but only faster and easier. Would I ever get the iPhone? No.

My favourite features on the iPod touch are - bluetooth, speed of installing, restarting, battery life, display, browsing capability, email setup, build quality...

Itunes no longer allows me to add songs to this mp3 player and wants a reset really bad which is so annoying. I wish there was a way of backing up apps on the ipod like we have for the blackberry.

I have noticed that some of the applications feel much better on this iPod than on the iPhone. On the iPhone, I have noticed a visual blur with a lag of sort, this I don't notice on this flawless device. The battery life is surprisingly good and I'm glad I can attach it into a usb port to charge though I haven't done it since a year. I say so because when the wifi is on, the battery life still remains awesome.

I did buy the $10 upgrade to the newest software. I have never called Apple for anything but if I could, I would like to ask them to advise me on how to save all the apps I have purchased for over $150.

A podcast is a sound file (usually significantly longer than an mp3) and these or many of these can be downloaded from Apple iTunes for absolutely free. I've heard some great music using the podcasts but I wish I had more time in my life to do the same. If you're in the USA and you don't have an iPod touch, then I don't know what you're thinking because the capabilities are almost too good to be true.

The music quality and maximum volume is so-so. The bundled earphones I have long lost and they weren't too bad, just very average. I dislike the lock option and having to use my finger from right to left. The speaker volume is low but worthy none the less because it allows you to converse while not disturbing or being too loud at all. It's a bit like music playing in the distance and should be best left for preview.

While 32gb might not seem like a lot, it is sufficient enough. If itunes for windows was anywhere near as good as this iPod, I would've been slightly happier but I"m just being greedy now but you can't blame me for it is annoying how difficult and impossible it has become to upload mp3s to this device cause it's so corrupted and wants so badly to be reset.

I do not wish to reset and if you have a better back up plan for me, do let me know. I charge my ipod once in 5 days. I use it to check four email accounts, all mine, all from different years of my life.

I use a SPECK case for it and it only makes my experience more worthwhile.

This is also a very good expensive but memorable gift.
