"NOT an Apple iPod that was received - DO NOT ORDER FROM GEEK'S GOODIES" 2010-02-09

By V. Wallace (ST. Joseph, MI)

Ordered from a "trusted" vendor on Amazon, Geek's Goodies, I received a product that was NOT an Apple iPod. It was an unnamed, non-branded item that had obviously been previously sold and returned. It had files on it from previous buyer, and the directions were completely useless. Would NOT download from iTunes because it was a rip-off brand. Could not return it because there was NO invoice with it. This issue STILL has not been resolved. Shipping box had been used several times, as well. Will never order from any vendor that is not directly Amazon again.

"Worked Great for the first 8 uses." 2010-02-10
By E. Goering
The product was great when it worked. It was easy to use to charge my phone and Ipod nano. However the charger died on me within 2 weeks (8 charges of use). The Battery pack still works, which is the part I care most about, but it sucks that the charger stopped working. It died after charging the battery pack for about 20 minutes. I noticed the pack didn't say it was charging anymore and found the wall charger died. It smelled like burnt electronics. Fortunately I can still charge the pack with my computer or Ipod wall charger usb ports. For a 65 dollar product, I expected the charger to work for more time than that.

 "Works beautifully!" 2010-02-08
By Guapo Gringo (Whittier, CA)
I bought this a few months ago from Amazon to keep our iPhones charged while we went on our vacation. It worked beautifully, esp. as a backup charger.

One of the things I like about this is you can charge the Kensington battery at the same time you are charging something else plugged into it. For example...

AC -> Kensington Battery -> iPhone 3G

It's designed to work this way (so says the user manual) and it's very convenient. I keep mine in my laptop bag just in case I need to charge my iPod or Livescribe pen. It's small enough that it doesn't take up any room, and it has a nice battery indicator light on it to tell you how charged it is. A+ for a great product.

 "Works great for the 3G S" 2010-01-27
By Dog Man (PA)
I bought this for long plane trips to watch movies and listen to music on my iphone 3G S. This has meet my expectations, the battery and cables are simple to use and it charges my phone like it states. I originally bought the Kensington model K33442US, which is the battery that fits in the bottom of the iphone. If you do not already know, this charger will not work with an Otterbox case so I had to return it. I bought the Kensington model K33396US which works great. If you have a Otterbox this charger is the battery charger for you.

I have both a house charger and car charger for the iPhone and this back was just not needed. I don't regret the purchase as I always keep it charged and ready for a trip of travel to an unusual location. Plus I had read about the short battery life for the build in iPhone battery. It is well made.

 "Mediorcre reception" 2010-02-08

By Terpsicorp (Chicago)

The device is easy to use, but selection of a station to listen to with good reception is difficult. When driving in rural areas, can get some reception for a while. But need to change stations frequently to maintain reception. In city areas, very poor reception. Susceptible to much interference. I like the design, but there is too much static on the reception to make listening enjoyable.

 "The worst" 2010-02-06

 "Awesome for the price." 2010-02-04

By Emotlah (Tx)

I keep seeing people write crummy reviews on this item, and I can't figure out why. I spent a total of 10 dollars on mine with shipping....

Ok, so it really isn't the fanciest thing ever, but it does it's job. A lot of people say to go to the international frequency, but the international side sucks, it causes it to randomly turn off. I was able to find a really good station to take over living in a medium sized city, always works perfect now. I could understand this thing sucking for a road trip that involves going through lots of cities and towns as you would have to pull over to find a new station to take over constantly, but for a very cheap solution to playing a MP3 player or other device in a car, you can't go wrong with this one. REALLY easy to use with a little common sense, sound is decent, overall I give it 4 stars. Seriously, how can you go wrong for 10 bucks?

 "Greatness." 2010-02-02

By Manuel Avila (Oregon, USA)

I've had this for a few months now and it does it's job very, very well! If you need an FM transmitter/charger but don't want to spend too much, this is a great option.

The signal is pretty clear. I use 87.9 in International mode and have never had any interference in my area (You have to change the settings.)

A few notes:

- You might get some humming/static caused by the car itself (i.e. fans.)

- The USB port for charging has been VERY useful! Though, I tend to charge my phone more than I do my iPod!

The only thing that bothers me about the device is that it shuts itself off when it "hears" nothing for around 30-40 seconds and you're bombarded with static. Do not spend too much choosing songs or listening to something really quiet! Other than that, with it's low price, it's worth buying!

 "great look, questionable durability" 2010-02-06

By D. Oscarson (Spokane, WA USA)

Since we already have 6 Sansa MP3 players (3 about 5 years old) and never had a problem with them, I was more than willing to put them on the top of the list for a small device that also supports video.

The 8 GB Sansa Fuze has a great look and solid feel. It was recognized by both my Windows Vista and XP based computers. The software that reports the battery charge level was inaccurate, just like on my E280 and my Sansa Clips, but a firmware upgrade seemed to improve its reporting.

Loading with music as simple. I use the basic drag and drop from Windows, while my son uses I-tunes, and both approaches work fine.

The user interface is consistent with our Sansa Clips, so it is easy to understand, and audio playback was on par with the sansa clip. FM radio is a nice option and works fine. The scroll wheel is easy to use and provides a decent feel.

On the negative side:

The provided documentation was totally deficient. If were were not familiar with the device I think it would have been difficult to use some of the features. Some of the URL links listed in the documentation were not even valid. Finding the media converter software required a couple of web searches.

The media converter software is yet another story. It would reject standard video formats such as the VOB from DVD (prior version of media converter supported it). I had to download freeware conversion programs to come up with a format that media converter would accept. Even then I was not able to convert videos of any length using this software. It would hang at a point in the process. Web searches identified commercial products that should allow you to convert DVD type video to the Fuze. I ended up using a freeware package and did dramatic compression of the original video and then running that through Sansa Media Converter to get video converted and loaded. However, the Fuze would periodically hang when playing the video.

Video quality is what you would expect for a high compressed video on a low pixel count 1.9" sceen.

The major issue that I have with the Fuze is the durability of the display. Our Fuze was just over 1 month old, kept in a protective Sansa rubber cover, and looked absolutly brand new. It fell from a desk to a carpeted floor, and the display was internally damaged. The exterior still looked perfect (not a scratch or scuff), but the majority of the display has a large blank 'ink spot' and another portion has scambled pixels.

I contacted SanDisk and was informed that they do not offer repair and can not replace the device because it fell. So this device may not be suitable for a portable environment with the potential of impact/drop.

The overall low rating was based on the documentation, Media converter, and durability question.

"Extraordinary value in a very versatile, tiny unit." 2010-02-05

By Jerry Saperstein (Evanston, IL USA)

The Sansa Fuze is one heck of a device. I purchased the 4GB unit several months ago and have been totally satisfied with it. The 4GB unit has now replaced an XM receiver. With a 16GB card, you can load several thousand tunes, set it on shuffle and listen for days without a repeat (in theory, at least).

Given the opportunity to snatch up an 8GB unit on sale, I didn't hesitate: I bought it. (I really wish they had a 16GB unit.)

The Sansa Fuze handles video, has an FM radio, can be used as a voice recorder, audio book player, photo viewer and, of course, is a very competent MP3 player. In a pinch, you can also use it to store data.

The unit is extremely compact and very light (2.2 x 1.5 x 0.6 inches and 2.1 ounces according to Amazon). Manufacturing quality is high. The audio out the 3.5mm jack is surprisingly full and even more surprisingly loud. The 1.9" is a wonder. Much to my delight, I just watched a movie on it and didn't find the small screen to be a handicap, which frankly astonished me.

As supplied, the unit charges with the provided USB cable. Needless to say, external chargers are available as are composite video cables, auto chargers and a host of cases. The battery is not user replaceable. Sansa says you'll get 24 hours of audio and 5 hours of video. I haven't tested the unit to those extremes. One negative feature is that you cannot use the unit for audio or video playback when it is connected via the USB cable, so plan on charging it at night or whenever you're not planning on using the unit.

The Fuze accepts microSDHC cards which means you can expand its capacity by 4GB or more. I have successfully tested it with 16 GB microSDHC cards.

Sansa does a good job of resolving issues with the firmware. They also provide an easy-to-use converter for photos and video, though anyone familiar with the DivX and JPG formats can roll their own.

Overall, this is a very nice little unit. The Fuze is really great as a low profile entertainment center. Very cool gadget. I suspect I will be purchasing at least one more to replace an XM unit in the car.

 "Decent for the price" 2010-02-04

By James Neal (Wisconsin)

I wanted a basic mp3 player, I have a iTouch and dont want the extra features (apps) that it has.

This is pretty basic and runs smoothly. Yet mine did lock up, froze, shut off at random times. I looked up the issue, and was told to update my firmware on the device, I did... and it fixed the problem. I have 0.7 and the current is 2.23 I believe.

I found the interface to be decent. Yet when it comes to using rhapsody to utilize the device, its slow. Actually too slow in my opinion and thats why I took off 1 star.

"Great for listening to podcasts" 2010-02-03

By Catherine Rinaldo

There are two very useful features for listening to podcasts on this device. The resume feature which will ask if you want to resume play where you left off and the speed feature so you can speed up the audio. I am completely satisfied with this product except for the ear buds. There are too big for me and I'm an average size woman.

 "Excellent Product!!!" 2010-02-03

By M. Henry (Atlanta, GA)

This is my third MP3 in a long line of others from Sansa. This one far and away cleans up all the other sticking points and frustrations I experienced with of the older Sansa devices. The controls are much more solid than the earlier models. And I strongly recommend bypassing the the e-series and the 2GB clip and go to the head of the class with the the Fuze.

Yes it's bigger and bulky somewhagt but all that music coupled with a Rhapsody subscription makes you in charge of your own radio station. Especially if you're genre-specific like me and there are no area radio stations that play your syle of music. Get a decent FM Transmitter with it and you're good to go!

This is a real, value product for the money. Finally: one thing to help the music quality be sure to select in the Rhapsody the elevated bytes count for the music download. It makes the music so much better (Seal never sounded so good!) and with 8GB of memory the extra byte count per song is not that big of a hit if you stay up with your device updating!!

Buy this!

The device functions just as it was intended to function.

The dial = great

The buttons = great

The video playback = great!

Cons:

I am as inept with iTunes as an adult with a VCR!

Baring that the girlfriend loves it!

 "does the job" 2010-02-03

By gcb (Santa Clara, Ca)

Small, lightweight, great battery life, great sound quality. Most of all, you can't beat Itunes right now for managing music, podcasts, ITunes University, audiobooks, etc, which is the reason I'm using an IPOD. For some (dumb) reason Apple decided to add a camera in the 5th generation model, unfortunate since I couldn't bring it to work! 4th generation is the optimal model in this line for that reason. My only complaint: the clickwheel, which I realize is trendy but it has at least two inconveniences: 1) it is hard to make small volume adjustments, especially when it's in your pocket, and 2) it is hard to rewind just a little bit (like if you miss part of an audiobook) -- if you don't hit just right, you rewind the whole thing. This is where I think other mp3 players (like sony's) have an advantage from a 'practical' point of view -- but this requires more 'buttons'-- something apple is adverse to so they often choose fashion over functionality, unfortunately.

Im a 50 something woman and I find this I pod easy to use . I bring it with me every where and I have a set up in my car. I like it also because I only have to buy the songs I like instead of the whole album.

"Just one problem with my I-pod" 2010-01-31

By Mona Lavine (L..A. CA USA)

I like this product, however, the only problem is that the plug from the ear buds falls out unless the I-pod is in an upright posititon.
